2014 - Our year in review
December 17, 2014
As 2014 comes to a close it is natural to begin to reflect on what has been in the 12months past, the lessons that we have learnt, the challenges we have faced, the battles we have fought - sometimes won, some times lost but always learning. It is also a time where we begin to put in place some plans for the upcoming year. Goals, targets, personal and professional development. We want to end the next year better than the year past.
Our adviser superstar, Asha, has taken some time to pen her reflections on 2014.
Well 2014 has been and gone and boy has it been a big one!
Chris and I started the year off with a trip to Kuala Lumpur (yes it was business! but you can't go overseas without a bit of sightseeing thrown in) for my first taste of the MDRT (Million Dollar Round Table) Asian Experience. MDRT is a qulification only organisation where the best and brightest advisers from around the world gather to share and learn. They attract the most motivational, powerful, charistmatic leaders from all walks of life and all different sectors. Some leaders in business, sports, finance military just to name a few. It is hard to comprehend what 7,000 people in one place look like but that is what we were greeted with at the Kuala Lumpur convention centre. A lovely bunch of friendly and passionate advisers from primarily the asia-pacific region along with ourselves were treated to two full days of information and advice from some very inspirational guest speakers. Some of the attendees at the conference were quite identifiable in their green blazers while others were in suits and ties. Being two of only a small number of caucasian people who attend this event we were like celebrities which was quite overwhelming and fulfilling at the same time.
2014 was also a year of change for the business, Mel, our receptionist, commenced maternity leave early in the year to have her first baby. Her and husband Michael welcomed to the world a gorgeous little daughter, Hadley. In her place we welcomed Amy and Sarah. They have both fitted in well and have bought new life to the business and it is fantastic and satisfying to see their continual growth in their respective roles.
It has also been a year of growth in terms of rekindling our relationships with exisiting partners and forming relationships with new referrals, but what has been especially rewarding has been the welcoming of a large number of new clients to the business. This is validation that we are doing something right! We have continued our strong relationships and tireless work with our existing clients and look forward to continuing this with each and everyone of them for many years to come.
We do work exceptionally hard but we also like to let our hair down from time to time to and we are extremely fortunate to be involved with some outstanding charities and fundraisers, in particular the Variety Club and Quarter Club.
We had another great year at the annual Variety Club ball with friends and referral partners. This years theme was Friday the 13th and everyone took the opportunity to get into the spirit and dressed up as zombies, vampires and cult horror stars.
We had the pleasure of hosting a couple of long term clients at the annual Quarter club dinner in July along with our team member Cathy and her husband Michael also having the opportunity to partake in the festivities and enjoyed a few dances at the after party until the early morning. It was nice to be able to spend this time and show our appreciation to our clients and share this special event with them. The night was very well received and our guests were able to mingle with many well known sports stars, including our friends Anna Meares and Amber Halliday
Overall the business has had a very successful and fulfilling year inspite of the contuinual regulatory and legislative changes which have dogged our industry for the past 18months and shows no signs of receeding. Although it is an annoyance and at times an operational distraction it is, unfortunately, the world we now live in. We will continue to stay ahead of the curve and just do what we love to do which is help our clients achieve their goals.
I can honestly say it is a joy to come to work and I would like to thank our team for assisting in the success of the business and I look forward to a bigger and better 2015.
